One of the aspiring councillors for Jombo Ward in Mzuzu City, Gowoka Mkandawire has taken a step in the promotion of hygiene within the ward he is vying for by donating bins.
Speaking after the donation, Mkandawire said he made the donation after some vendors from shoes section outside Mzuzu market approached him for the donation.
“When the vendors from this section approached me, I promised them that I will honour their request. This is a way promoting hygiene within the premisses. Hygiene is very important everywhere including here,” said Mkandawire.
He added: “This is not my first time to do this because previously I was collecting garbage around Jombo Ward using my personal resources to keep clean for conducive business environment.”
In his remarks, Benson Mwenitumba who spoke on behalf of his fellow vendors, thanked Mkandawire for the gesture saying he has fulfilled his promise.
“We were just throwing refuse anyhow around this place putting our lives at risk of cholera outbreak in the process. So with this donation, we are grateful,” said Mwenitumba while smiling.
