Commissioner from Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Moffat Banda has urged politicians to embrace issue based politics and shun away from articulating issues that are against other political parties.
Commissioner Banda made the sentiments in Zomba on Thursday Friday after meeting various stakeholders and aspiring candidates as the country heeds to May 21 tripartite elections.
He said electoral stakeholders and politicians ought to work together for the tripartite elections to be fair and transparent.
“I also appeal to the concerned parties to include people with disabilities in their manifestos. These are the people who are facing different challenges in the country. It is unwise to talk of other parties instead of issues that are affecting the communities and providing solutions.
In her remarks one of the aspiring candidates standing on United Democratic Front (UDF) for Zomba Likangala Gillian Mulombe concurred with Banda saying people are facing many challenges and there is no need of discussing petty politics.
“Our country is poor and we all need to work together. In my constituency, communities want solutions to problems which they are facing such as in health, education and constructions of various infrastructures. I feel like time has come to empower the youths in my area.” Said Mulombe.
