As days draw closer to the much anticipated watershed May 21 Polls, the main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) continue to enjoy high profile endorsements with the latest made by President and Founder of Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD), Cassim Chilumpha.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, the veteran politician with resounding accolades in university lecturing says, he has arrived at the decision to endorse the candidature of Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, after a thorough consultation with his party supporters.
Chilumpha who is also the country’s former Vice President indicates that the decision has been propelled by the recent disqualification of his candidature by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).
“Therefore, all my supporters are being advised to render all their support to MCP candidates,” reads the statement in part.
The learned doctor says, he strongly believes that MCP is the only solution to Malawi’s governance sickness.
Through its ruling, the High Court had on April 11, 2019 barred Chilumpha from contesting in the presidential race under Tikonze Peoples Movement (TPM), after some of its members had petitioned the elections referee, MEC to disqualify Chilumpha over the alliance representation disagreements.
