Muslim Artists Association (Maas) has organised an art concert dubbed 1440 Art Concert to be held on June 8, 2019 at Blantyre Cultural Centre in the city of Blantyre, Malawi.

Maas president, Noordin Abubakar Cassim said in an interview that the association plans to make the concert an annual and established event in Malawi.

“It’s an event which we intend to make it the biggest art event for the Muslims in Malawi. That’s why we are calling it using Islamic calendar which this year is 1440 after the Hijir (migration) of Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him) from Makkah to Madina. That means  next year it will be 1441 Art Concert,” elaborated Cassim.

He added: “All we want to build is something big for the Islamic art industry. We have started with a day. As we go along, we will be organising a concert which will be held for two days or more than that.”

Cassim further said the concert will also be used as a platform where budding artists will be exposed.

“A new blend of art. We have compiled a list of upcoming artists working hard to build their brand. This whole event will be full of new ideas. People should expect good performances from both celebrated and the up and coming artists who will share the stage during the concert,” said the Maas president.

The concert will be characterised   by poetry, music and  drama among other categories to spice the day.

Some of the atists who will headline the 1440 Art Concert include Ausman Wailo, Alaphiat Kombo, Grey Saizi, Anganga Ajabiru (standup comedian), Muhammad Chilimba the duo of Poison & Katete (comedians), Abdul Salaam Mpirah, Adam Tiyesi  and many more.
