In a bid to help the elderly, Mawa ndi anthu, a Community Based Organization(CBO) has donated blankets worth MK400,000 to 36 people in Group Village Head (GVH) Chilembwe in the area of Traditional Authority(T/A) Mlumbe in Zomba.
Speaking in an interview last Friday, project leader for the CBO Luis Gama said his organization will continue rendering support to vulnerable people in its impact area.
He said the elderly are experiencing various challenges and the blankets will help them especially in this winter season.
“We are striving to provide necessary support to children and the elderly. As a CBO, we would like to encourage villagers in this area that it is important to support each other regardless of the little resources we have. We have given these blankets to the underprivileged and we know that many elders are experiencing the same challenge and we will be reaching out to them.” Said Gama.
In her remarks GVH Chilembwe asked his subjects to take care of the blankets saying it is a rare opportunity being given the blankets especially in this cold weather.
One of the elders who benefited from the donation Nicholus Fulesiano said it will be the first time for him to use a good blanket.
“Let me take this opportunity and appeal to other well-wishers to come and help us here. We rarely get support here probably because it is a hard to reach area. I thank this CBO because it is doing commendable works here” said Fulesiano.
