An 11-year-old boy has died in a road accident in Ntchisi after being hit by a speeding motor vehicle.
According to Ntchisi public relation officer Gladson Bumpha , the deceased has been identified as Paul Sakwiza of Chipokosa Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kalumo in Ntchisi.
“The accident which happened on Saturday, June 8 2019 at Chipokosa Village involved a motor vehicle registration number KU 7325 Nissan Bongo minibus driven by James Chimbota, 40, of Mankamba Village in the area of Traditional Authority Thomas in Thyolo who was driving from the direction of Mponela heading Ntchisi direction with about nine passengers on board”.
“The Traffic Police report indicate that as the driver was driving towards Chipokosa Village at an approximate speed of 90 to 100Km per hour, he failed to negotiate a sharp curve and as a result he lost control of the motor vehicle which went to the extreme near side dirt verge where it ended up hitting the deceased (pedestrian) who died on spot after sustaining severe head injuries and deep cut wound on the right knee and multiple fractures on both legs and arms”said Bumpha
He added that motor vehicle continued to roll over several times and rest on a nearby tree and as a result of the impact, the driver sustained chest pains and is at a comma position at Ntchisi District Hospital while the rest of the passengers escaped with minor injuries and are receiving treatment at Ntchisi District Hospital.
The driver is expecting to appear before court soon to answer a charge of causing death by reckless driving as soon as he recovers.
