A 22-year old man, Chikondi Lester is to spend the next 7 years in jail for causing grievous harm over workplace self prepared lunch commonly known as “Mmemo”.

The Limbe Second Grade Magistrates’ Court heard that, on May 8, 2019 at Chikapa Trading Centre in Machinjiri location, the convict assaulted the 24 year old Brighton Mchetsera after learning that the victim had not contributed anything towards the said “m’memo” and yet he was eating together with the rest of his fellows.

The angry Lester is said to have, in the process of displaying his anger, lifted a brick and threw it at the victim, which landed on his right eye and also on his mouth.

Well wishers responded by rushing the victim to Queen Elizabeth Central Hosital where, following the extent of the injury, his eye was permanently removed.

After overwhelming evidence, the court found Lester, who pleaded not guilty, guilty as charged contrary to Section 238 of the Penal Code.

The presiding Magistrate, George Chimombo slapped the convict with a 7-year jail term

The convict hails from Fred Village in Traditional Authority Makata in Blantyre.
