A young Roman Catholic Priest, Fr. Michal Los who was ordained a month ago has died.
In the announcement by his faithful community, Fr. Los of the Congregation of the Orionine Fathers died on the morning of Monday, June 17, 2019.
The late Polish priest was ordained on May 24 while on hospital bed in Warsaw.
He is reported to have been diagnosed with cancer about a month prior to the ordination. It is further reported that, at the time of his ordination, he was critically ill.
The global leader of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, had granted a dispensation, allowing Los to be ordained both a deacon and a priest in the same Holy Mass. The Pope had sent a letter to the Director General of the Congregation, Fr. Tarcisio Vieira, granting him permission.
Los was ordained by Bishop Marek Solarczyk of the Diocese of Warsaw-Praga.
The day before his ordination, Los made perpetual vows in his religious community, the Congregation of the Orionine Fathers.
On May 25, the late priest celebrated his first Mass, also from his hospital bed. In a video posted on social media that day, Los thanked Catholics who were praying for him, and asked for their continued prayers.
Weeks before he died, Fr. Los received a visit from the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, who requested a special blessing.
