GLORY TECHNICAL COLLEGE WORRY WITH TEVETA’s NO RECOGNITION
The Directors of Glory Technical College in Dowa have expressed a concern over the Technical Entrepreneural Vocational Education and Training ( TEVET) Authority negligence for failing to recognise small technical colleges in Malawi with no certificates.
It’s Executive Director, Winickess Kalukusha, said the attitude of TEVETA is hampering the vision of young youths enrolling themselves in local vocational skills and training colleges saying not all can find their way into the Government Community Technical Colleges across the country.
He said it is worrisome
Éto note that TEVETA is failing to recognise his brain child Technical college which is the first of its kind in Dowa complimenting government efforts of making the youths self employed and reliance in the district.
Speaking in an interview, Kalukusha said since Glory Technology College started in 2017 located at the district headquarters, Dowa boma, 72 students have completed different vocational courses but up to now, they have not been recognised with TEVETA certificates saying this is a worrisome development as if small Technical colleges do not exist in Malawi.
He expressed hope that TEVETA will listen to Glory’s Technical College concern and change its heart by recognising his college as one and only local vocational school in Dowa.
The Director said the College enrol students from the areas of traditional authorities Msakambewa, Mkukula and Chiwere and has other students coming from outside Dowa district.
He said students from within Dowa district are being offered free of charge costs for vocational skills and training while those from other districts pay different amounts ranging from 20,000 Kwacha _ 40,000 Kwacha per term.
Kalukusha said the College find accommodation for its students from other districts saying as of now, it is in the building up period, lacking good structures and hostels.
He urged those who have a strong interest of seeing the vocational college grow in the district to join him saying Glory Technical College is for all the Dowa people.
Glory Technical College offers training courses such as Electrical, Tailoring, Carpentry and Joinery, ICT, and Soap making.
