Suspect In UTM Leader’s Elections Name Transfer Case Killed In An Accident

Fatal road accident at Linthipe 1 in Dedza district has claimed life of a man who was answering charges in connection with transfer of name of UTM President, Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima from Area 18 in Lilongwe to Chizumulu Island in the last May 21 National Elections.

The 26-year-old Sailesi Kampango met his fate when he was travelling in a saloon vehicle to Chikwawa from Lilongwe where he appeared before court earlier in the day.

According to Deputy Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Dedza Police, Kassim Manda, upon reaching Linthipe 1, the saloon vehicle with registration number RU 5494 carrying 5 passengers hit a truck, which was parked along the main road.

Out of the five passengers, it was only Kampango who died on the spot while the other four, including the driver, were rushed to Dedza District Hospital where they are being treated for injuries.

The deceased was arrested four weeks ago over the charge of transferring a name on voters roll. He however denied the charge claiming, he had no transferring rights through Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) system although the system showed his logging in credentials.

The late Kampango hailed from Katsinje Village in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Ganya in Ntcheu district.
