Dowa Can’t Wait: Anti-Jane Ansah Demonstrators On It
Demonstrators in Dowa district could not wait until Friday, as on Tuesday morning, crowds in action were seen along the M1 road at Mponela Trading Centre marching and chanting.
The people took to the streets to express their anger and disappointment hence mount pressure on the embattled Chairperson of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), Justice Jane Ansah to resign from her position.
Originally, organisers of the nationwide demonstrations, the HRDC announced on Sunday during a press briefing in Lilongwe that the Tuesday demos would not take place because they did not in time submit a notice to Police, City and Distict Councils.
The organisers emphasised that the demos would therefore resume on Friday.
However, Malawi Freedom Network (MFN) understands, the Dowa demonstrations have been organised by local Civil Society Organizations in the district.
Dowa will also participate in the coming Friday’s demonstrations.
In their original plan, the main organisers will twice a week (Tuesdays and Fridays) for the coming three weeks, lead the demonstrations in all the country’s 28 districts.
