MEC Lawyer Booed For Repetitive Probing Of Chilima; Court Adjourns To Friday
Audience in the constitutional court had on Wednesday gone berserk to boo lawyer for Malawi Freedom Network (MEC), Kalekeni Kaphale who is Malawi Attorney General (AG) for his repetitive style of questioning UTM Party President, Saulos Chilima who is the first petitioner in the ongoing high profile presidential elections case.
Amid the booing, it took the judge chairing the panel of judges, Justice Healy Potani to caution the audience not to behave as if they were at a football ground.
In the five day cross examination process, Kaphale has recurrently been facing objections from MCP and UTM lawyers over delays in questioning the first petitioner and also over repetitive probing.
Meanwhile, the constitutional court has adjorned the case to Friday, August 16, 2019 to give space to another case in Supreme Court of Appeal in which Kaphale is asking court to throw out the presidential elections case.
