MNELA WINS SADC MEDIA AWARD
Former Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) Journalist Mallick Mnela, has won the 2019 SADC Media Awards, Television Category first prize.
Mr Mnela has received his award at the 39th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government taking place today in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Mnela’s entry focused on the peacekeeping efforts that Malawi is undertaking through the Malawi Defense Force (MDF) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
SADC Media Awards competition establishment was approved by SADC Council of Ministers in 1995 to recognise excellence in reporting in the region.
Since 1996 the SADC Secretariat has been coordinating the Media Awards to encourage the media in the Region to play a leading role in disseminating information on SADC in order to support the process of regional co-operation and integration.
Mallick Mnela has received a prize of $2500 and a certificate signed by the SADC Chairperson.
The SADC Media Awards competition is categorised into four namely; Photo, Print, Television and Radio Journalism.
Previous winners from Malawi are, MBC’s Vincent Khonyongwa who won the Award in 2013 in the Radio Category, ZBS Winstone Mwale & Times’ late Bonex Julius for Radio and photo categories respectively in 2015, and in 2016, Late Bonex Julius in photo category.
