Magufuli, President Of Tanzania Calls For Lift Of Economic Sanctions Against Zimbabwe

Member countries on Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) bloc, through its new Chairperson, the Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli, have called on Western countries to lift sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe.

Magufuli echoed the call in his speech at the conclusion of the 39th SADC Heads of State and Government Summit in the Tanzanian capital, Dar es Salaam.

Magufuli said, the summit has unanimously agreed to throw their weight in support of the bid to have economic sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the West lifted.

The new SADC Chairperson also revealed, that delegates to the summit, had discussed Burundi’s application to join the bloc.

About Burundi’s request, the Chairperson said, delegates didn’t endorse Burundi due to some short comings.

“We directed the SADC Secretariat to advise Burundi on some of the areas that they need to improve so that they could join the community,” said the chairperson, Magufuli.
