Another Petrol Bomb Dropped On MCP Official Moses Kumkuyu’s Vehicle
Unknown people that invaded the home of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Director of Campaign, Moses Kunkuyu in Blantyre’s location of Manase at around midnight of Thursday have petrol bombed one of his cars, a Nissan Navara.
In an interview on the morning of Friday, Kunkuyu, who at the time was at the police station where having his statement recorded, said at around 12 midnight, he heard shouts and screaming from security guards outside the house alerting him about the fire on the vehicle.
He said, together with the guards they managed to put out the fire although the vehicle is now in unrepairable condition.
Almost immeditely, Kumkuyu said, they found 8 unused petrol bombs within the compound and further observed, that 2 bombs were the ones that the criminals had used to set up fire on the vehicle.
Later in the morning, Kumkuyu said they found a jerrycan filled with petrol in the nearby bush outside the compound.
According to the MCP Official, prior to the bombing, some Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) cadets in the vicinity have been mocking his security guards about the vehicle, which was repainted from MCP colours to white neutral colours. The cadets are said to have told the guards that they still recognise the car hence would come to destroy it anytime soon.
On July 4, 2019, some cadets had attempted to petrolbomb vehicles in Kumkuyu’s compound hence promised they would return to accomplish their mission.
Of late, terror through petrol bombing property and vehicles of opposition leaders and Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has been registered.
Among the victims are the MCP Vice President Sidik Mia whose office in Blantyre was petrol bombed before a car belonging to HRDC Chairperson, Timothy Mtambo in Lilongwe was also bombed.
The first to be targeted was the MCP regional office in Blantyre which was bombed in a similar style of unleashing terror.
In all scenarios, the MCP as well as the HRDC leadership has pinpointed at DPP hired cadets as prime suspects.
