The latest discovery of troves of unused ballots for Mangochi Monkeybay Constituency at Malawi Electral Commission (MEC) warehouse, paints a clear picture that fake ballots were used during the heavily disputed May 21 elections.

The revelation of voters to have obviously casted fake ballots, which resulted in MEC declaring Ralph Jooma as winner, came into light last Wednesday during the inspection of MEC warehouse in a court case where Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Candidate, Gerald Kazembe, is challenging the election of Ralph Jooma who was declared winner on the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ticket.

The High Court in Blantyre, through Justice Maclean Kamwambe who is hearing the case ordered that the inspection should take place by parties involved in the legal battle.

In the case, Gerald Kazembe argues he had won the election accusing the electoral body of its failure to check and control the many irregularities that resulted into rigging, a claim that is yet to be proven in the court of law.

Both MEC and Ralph Jooma, who joined the case soon after it had started are the case being represented by legal counsels.

The parliamentary election dispute case has attracted a lot of interest as it breathes life into a dummy for all to fully comprehend of what actually transpired in the highly contested watershed election.

The case returns into court chambers on Monday, September 2, 2019
