MVANGIE ARTS is set to launch its poetry album this October this year in the capital Lilongwe.
Founder and Director for the Lilongwe based arts firm, Patwell Phiri confirmed the development in an interview with this publication.
Phiri said the album, titled Recite For Mothers, was released on July 27 and it has a total of twenty seven poets, each contributing a single poem.
“We are expecting to launch it on 13 October The venue for the launch is Zambezi Open Theatre situated along Area 23 road, We wanted to give mothers a special gift just by appreciating and recognising the great work that they do to the society. Part of the money raised during the launch will be used to cheer up mothers during mothers day at a hospital to be selected,” said Phiri.
Phiri who once served as regional chairperson for the Poetry Association of Malawi (Pam) for the central region, said people should come in their large numbers during the launch because they will enjoy the event.
“During the launch, people should expect the unique performances and we will have some notable women in the society to spice up the event. I can confirm here that so far, Member of Parliament for Lilongwe City South Constituency, Nancy Tembo has confirmed her presence during the launch,” he explained.
Phiri said poems in the Recite for Mothers were produced by country’s various studios but he mastered them under the banner Mvangie Arts which is his art company to be introduced in the industry.
Some of the poems appearing in the album include Gift to my mom (Amfumu Kenneth Khondiwa), Alindiamawo (Luckier Chikopa), Mukandinenele kwa Amai (Mussa Ngwira), Muzisamala Makolo (Evelyn Pangani Maotcha), Mkazi ndimaziko (Felix Njonjonjo Katsoka), Ndinu Mbambande Amai (Patwell Phiri), Zikomo Mama (Padiwa Kasho), Ananjinga (Rodwell Lumbe) and Zikomo Amai (Mervis Hunga).
