elderly are an asset to society and can contribute significantly to the development
By resolution 45/106 of 14 December 1990, the United Nations General Assembly
designated 1 October as the International Day of Older Persons (IDOP). This day
aims to recognize that
a)the elderly are an asset to society who can contribute significantly to the
development process, and
b)the complexity and rapidity of the aging of the world’s population and the need
to have a common basis and frame of reference for the protection and promotion
of the rights of the elderly, including the contribution that the elderly can and
should make to society..
FFTE will join the international community in commemorating this day on
1October 2019. Commemorating the IDOP is the first of its kind in Malawi. We are
looking at raising at least MK8,605, 000. 00 for the commemoration.
