Stadia Promise Wasn’t Just Campaign, Malawi President Tells Bullets, Wanderers
President Peter Mutharika has assured top football clubs, Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Befoward Wanderers that his promise to construct a stadium for each of the club was not just campaign rhetoric but reality that will come to pass.
The Malawi said this on Wednesday at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre during his meeting with officials from both teams.
Mutharika told representatives of both teams, that funds for the construction of the construction of the state- of-the-art modern facility stadiums were included in the 2019/2020 National Budget which is pending approval when the National Assembly will be meeting in a few days to come.
In his remarks, President of the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), Walter Nyamilandu said, when the two big teams will have their own stadiums, it will mean that the football giants shall start believing in themselves in as far as football is concerned.
Nyamilandu further said, having the two teams believing in themselves shall eventually lead into the fulfillment of dreams for Malawi national team go to the World Cup.
Also in attendance was Minister of Sports, Francis Phiso who stressed on the President’s commitment to develop sports including football in the country.
Some three years ago, Mutharika had also promised to construct a modern state-of-the-art stadium in Blantyre, a promise which hasn’t yet come to fulfillment.
