Picture Irks Children’s Right Organization
FCR Executive Director, Janifer Mkandawire.
One of the organizations that fights for the welfare of children, Foundation for Children’s Rights (FRC) has expressed dismay with a picture circulating on social media depicting a ‘child’ in a hospital who had just delivered.
The Executive Director for FRC, Jennifer Mkandawire expressed disheartenment accusing those who took the picture and throw it viral on social media saying this act is not only disrespecting the modesty of a woman but also traumatizing the mother psychologically.
Mkandawire said those who took the picture and the ones behind the circulation of it on social media should be taken to task.
“It is very unfortunate that someone can post a picture of a vulnerable ‘child’ mother on social media who is already tortured psychologically, considering how that child mother faces the world at the moment I don’t believe it is human for someone to continue inflicting pain on her,” Mkandawire said.
But spokesperson in the Ministry of Health, Joshua Malango said he could not comment on the picture which he said is not from Malawi.
“I cannot comment on the picture which did not originate from our country, I can challenge you to go to the said Machinga District Hospital and verify whether that mother passed through our labour ward,” Malango said.
A week ago the ministry of health issued a ban on anyone taking pictures of patients at any public health facility in ensuring that the privacy of patients is fully respected.
As one way of commemorating International Day of Girl Child this year, FCR trained girls drawn from ultra-poor households in the city of Mzuzu in various vocational skills so as to be self-reliant in their livelihoods with funding from Kinder Not Hilfe under community based trainings
