Tight Lips From Jane Ansah, PAC, Dialogue
No-one knows the outcome of Monday’s initiated dialogue between the religious quas body, Public Affairs Committee (PAC) and the Chairperson of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), Justice Jane Ansah.
At the end of the closed meeting which took place at MEC headquarters in Blantyre, neither PAC nor Ansah divulged any information about what they discussed in the meeting as both refused to reveal anything to the media.
Chairperson of PAC mediation team, Archbishop Thomas Msusa
Chairperson of the PAC’s mediation team, Archbishop Thomas Msusa only said the discussions had gone smoothly while MEC Chairperson, Justice Jane Ansah bluntly said: “I cannot tell you anything”.
The two sides had earlier planned to hold their discussions at Sunbird Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre but then decided to change venue in what they described as “over security concerns”.
So far, PAC mediation team has met President Peter Mutharika, Leadership of Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC), Malawi Congress Party President (MCP), Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and UTM Party President, Dr. Saulos Chilima.
With an intention to bring sanity and the lasting solution to the current political tension over disputed results of May 21 presidential elections, PAC offered to come in between the concerned parties and take lead in mediation talks.
