NYAMILANDU TO STAND AGAIN FOR FAM PRESIDENT
Walter Nyamilandu, president of the Football Association of Malawi ( FAM), has come out in the open to declare his interest to contest for the position of the president at the forthcoming elective Congress, which will be held in December, 2019.
Nyamilandu was first elected president of FAM in 2005 and is seeking another term of office marking the longest serving FAM president, the country has ever produced since the dawn of football..
It is alleged that Nyamilandu endorsed James Mwenda his vice out of the other two candidates to lead the football governing body but has changed tune.
In the press statement dated 1st August, 2019, Nyamilandu says the decision to seek re election has been highly motivated by the need to respond positively to the call of the Affiliates of FAM having extensively consulted with the individual members in the past few months..
He claims to have received overwhelming support and encouragement by members of the Affiliates to stand again owing to the remarkable achievement that has been realized while he has been at the helm of office.
….” I cannot ignore the Affiliates who have shown significant trust and confidence in me as the best candidate “, reads part of the statement..
The FAM boss said following his appointment as a member of the FIFA Council , he has managed to develop a good working relationship with individual members of FIFA council and exploited opportunities of socio- economic partners for the benefit of the entire football fraternity in Malawi.
Apart from being FAM president and FIFA council member, Walter Nyamilandu is also Confederation of African Football ( CAF) member.
