POSTING PICTURES OF CHILDREN ON SOCIAL MEDIA IS CIBER CRIME- NAVICHA.
Minister of Gender, Women and Disability Hon Mary Navicha has bemoaned the tendancy of posting pictures of children on social media without hiding their identies.
The Minister was speaking at a press briefing she held on Friday in Lilongwe.
“Posting of children’s images on social media without protecting their image is against the law because children cannot defend themselves, so they are to be protected.
The recent pictures of children that were circulating on the social media particularly on WhatsApp and Facebook are unacceptable”, said Navicha.
The coming in of social media with facilities to share pictures has seen the rise of ciber crimes where social media users have been posting photos without respecting the rights of minors which is against the laws of the land.
Recently there were pictures that went viral on social media and were shared without protecting the image of our children.
In Machinga a 14 year old girl who gave birth and a Blanytre young boy who used to drink kachasu given to him by his mother had their pictures and video clips circulating on social media without their images being protected.
Navicha is pleading with social media users to stop ciber crimes and respect the rights of children.
