Policeman Killed In Nsundwe Riots
Angry rioters in Lilongwe- Nsundwe have on Tuesday morning killed in cold blood a police officer whom they spotted in a squad of law enforcers firing teargas.
Eye witnesses who saw it happening said, the deceased officer met his fate when together with colleagues were running away after teargas which they had been firing was finished.
“The protesters started chasing the police officers and this particular who has been killed was so unfortune as he ran too late,” reported an eye witness who asked for anonymity.
Early in the morning, some militant school children were seen chanting anti Jane Ansah songs and eventually started closing roads. They went further to start demanding money from motorists if they wanted to pass through.
The action of the youngsters gradually led to a full swing riot by angry men and young men who are popularly known as “Nsundwe military”.
Rumour making rounds indicate that the riot has been instigated by President Peter Mutharika’s prior announced public rally expected to take place at Kamuzu Institute for Youth in Lilongwe and that the violent action is aimed at blocking him from holding any public function in the land turned volatile due to political tension.
