Mwapasa case is still pending
Parliament on Friday ended in controversy as opposition members and those from the ruling side pointed fingers at each other over the failure by the house to confirm the acting inspector General of Police Duncan Mwapasa.
Government through leader of the house Kondwani Nankhumwa said the opposition frustrated the move in the house by obtaining an injunction to restrain the speaker of the National Assembly from making a ruling on whether the house should confirm Mwapasa when there is already the inspector general of police Rodney Jose.
Speaking to reporters, Nankhumwa expressed disappointment with the way business has gone in the house saying it has set a bad precedence for future business in the house.
He said what MCP has done was a deliberate plan to frustrate the business mostly Mwapasa’s confirmation.
But the opposition side through interim leader of opposition has defended his side saying the appointment of Mwapasa is illegal because the office of the IG is not yet vacant.
Parliament has closed today till the next session.
