PRESIDENTIAL FILE: APM’S MESSAGE AT MALAWI UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY GRADUATION
The University must cultivate the spirit of innovation, problem-solving, self-dependence and national pride.
MUST was founded as a project of Africa’s rediscovery in Malawi.
Malawi has what it needs to develop — resources, capable people. What the Univeristy must do is to make Malawians believe that they are capable people.
Malawians should stop thinking that someone will come from somewhere to create fortune for Malawians. They are the creators of own fortunes. It all depends on whether people choose to see the positive side or the negative side of this country.
The University must prove that Malawi is not a poor. Only the people are poor. And that much of our poverty is poverty of the mind. The mission of the University should be to wage a crusade against a negative mindset.
The graduating students have demonstrated that with determination and hard work, Malawians can achieve their dreams.
The students must go out and prove that they are creators of solutions to Malawi’s challenges. They must see opportunities where some see challenges.
The University is demonstrating a new spirit of resolving its challenges peacefully; hence no staff strikes and boycotting of classes since its opening.
The University must continue to demand peace when peace is threatened. “In the face of evil, silence is collusion.”
Hailed participation of the private sector in growth of the University.
