Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has given President Lazarus Chakwera 30 days to solve blackouts challenges. HRDC through its Chairperson Gift Trapence has told President Chakwera to take lead in finding long lasting solutions to the electricity problems. The Human Rights group further demands that government go back to Parliament to revise the Act that should bundle ESCOM, EGENCO and Power Market Limited - PML into one to cut costs and create a seamless entity that should be managed under one roof. A Malawian based in South Africa, Rodriguez Cham'mudzi has donated automobile workshop tools to Matandani Technical College in Neno. Speaking at the occasion today, Rodriguez encouraged the students at the college to take the skills profession seriously and help in creating more jobs for others in rural Malawi. The school’s projects manager, Daniel Raileanu thanked Cham'mudzi for the equipment, adding the college intends to introduce plumbing and other hands-on courses to produce more skilled labour. Student president, Harneck Naotcha appealed to his fellows to make optimum use of the K12 million worth of equipment.

A total of 11 illegal immigrants have been deported to their respective countries. Northern Region Immigration Public Relations Officer, Francis Chitambuli, said out of the 11, nine are from Pakistan and two are from Bangladesh. "In April 2022, the 11 illegal immigrants entered Malawi using uncharted routes and had passports but without visas. They were arrested in Karonga and were remanded at Karonga prison until the court found them guilty of illegal entry offence contrary to section 21(1) of the Malawi Immigration Act", said Chitambuli. They were all declared Prohibited Immigrants under section 4(1)f and deported through Kamuzu International Airport. EASTERN Province has been stocked with over 1 million pieces of condoms ahead of Kulamba traditional ceremony of Chewa people of Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique slated for this Saturday in Katete district. The province has been stocked with 1,249,920 latex material ahead of the ceremony which is expected to attract thousands Chewa's from the three countries.Kulamba Ceremony is an annual traditional ceremony that portrays the rich cultural heritage of the Chewa people from about 210 Chewa chiefdoms in Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia.

Labren Sondhi Director of Planning and Development at EGENCO says the blackouts that the country is experiencing now will end by 22 September this year. Sondhi has disclosed this during a meeting with a Joint committee on Natural resources committee, Public Accounts Committee, Trade Committee and Legal affairs committee. According to Sondhi, currently they have set a team that is working on the problem. He says, another team has also been set to inquire into what is causing the blackouts. The Joint committee, summoned Egenco to the meeting to discuss current blackouts, electricity tariffs and single buyer system.

Police in Lilongwe on Sunday, arrested a 30-year-old pastor from Maye, Nathenje for allegedly touching and inserting his fingers into the private parts of two sisters in the name of cleansing them from evil spirits. Confirming the arrest, Lilongwe Police spokesperson, Hastings Chigalu said Juma Njera of Come to Jesus Ministries invited the two sisters aged 17 and 24 to his house for special prayers on Saturday. It was 11 am when MBC found her at her home in Tchitee Village, Ntchisi. Although it was just an hour to lunchtime, the family had nothing else for a meal apart from boiled bananas.
