The Opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has described President Lazarus Chakwera's address on Tuesday, as empty and full of dishonesty. Chakwera addressed the Nation on Tuesday where among others he outlined fifteen austerity measures which among other things put limit to external travels for senior government officials. Chakwera also fired Zangazanga Chikhosi as Secretary to President and Cabinet and replaced him with Colleen Zamba. There are now hopes for improved power outages in Malawi as power generator EGENCO has disclosed plans to commence reconstruction works for Kapichira power station in July. This follows securing funds amounting to 60 million US Dollars from World Bank through the Ministry of Finance for the repairs of the Kapichira dam for both phase 1 and phase 2 works. The funds are to cater for the Emergency Power Restoration Project from cyclone Ana disaster for both EGENCO and ESCOM. British business tycoon Zuneth Sattar who faces accusations of alleged corruption has said he is the most hated person in Malawi. Speaking to The Times of UK,  Sattar aged 41, said people hate him because he is successful  at a relatively younger age. “I am very successful, I have done well for my age and sometimes that brings enemies. But I have nothing to hide, I have done nothing wrong,” he said. Kasungu Senior Resident Magistrate Biar Joshua Kamanga has ordered the Police to release 9 suspects on Police bail. This is after the court learned that some of the suspects had spent about 20 days in police holding cells against the 48 -hour-rule. The rule demands that suspects be tried within the same period after being brought into police custody.
