By Martha Kachingwe Phiri--LILONGWE Former Salima Sugar Company chairperson Sherieesh Betgiri has been remanded to Maula Prison until July 2023 after Principal Resident Magistrate's Court in Lilongwe has denied him bail. Police arrested him on Wednesday this week and is answering charges of money laundering and fraudulently obtaining a $300 million loan in Dubai in the name of the company. Principal Resident Magistrate Madalitso Chimwaza declined to grant the accused bail after the state had pleaded with the court that it needed more time to conclude its Investigations on the matter. Ministry of Lands Southern Region members of staff have been asked to treat every client with dignity and avoid corrupt practices when helping people with land issues. Principal Secretary for Ministry of Lands David Chilonga made the remarks on Thursday during an orientation meeting on devolvement of powers to local councils held at Central Office of Information in Blantyre. “There is need for every member of staff to treat every client with respect and dignity regardless of how they are dressed or their physical appearance,” he said. By Vincent Poya--THYOLO People's Land Organization-PLO I Thyolo plans to hold vigils at the Thyolo District Council on July 3 this year in a bid reclaim land that their colonial masters allegedly acquired fraudulently. They want Lands Minister, Deus Gumba to address land issues in Thyolo, Mulanje and Chiaradzulu districts. PLO chairperson, Fadson Mleme says 23 years have elapsed after the 1999 Malawi Commission of Inquiry on land policy recommended that the British government should compensate indigenous Malawians, Government and others. He says nothing has happened. Meanwhile, The Radar understands Thyolo District Commissioner, Rosemary Nawasha has invited PLO officials for an interface on June 26 2023.

Billy Malata, who is the party's Deputy Director of Political Affairs says some people being invited to the meeting are not NGC members and the party's constitution doesn't recognize them. High Court Judge Howard Pemba has since restrained the party's secretary general, Grezelder Jeffrey and spokesperson Shadric Namalomba from going on with the meeting until a further court order is made.
