Future Medic Sentenced To 3 Yrs Imprisonment For Breaking
The Blantyre Chief Resident Magistrate Court has sentenced a College of Medicine student, Mtendere Gwanda to 3 years imprisonment for Breaking into a building and committing a felony there in.
Court heard that the convicted student, had on May 31, 2019, through the window, broken into the ICT library within the college campus.
In the library, he stole two sets of HP computers and one central processing unit (CPU).
The incident happened while students were about to go for holiday.
The discovery of the stolen items was made while students had gone for holidays and after checking through security cameras, it was revealed that Gwanda was the one who broke into the library and stole the said items.
It was until students had returned from holidays that authorities at the college invited him and asked him about the breaking.
The student had confessed that he was behind the criminal act after management showed him footage tapped from security cameras.
The authorities reported the matter to police where he was charged with the above mentioned offence, which he voluntarily accepted.
In mitigation after court found him guilty on his own plea, Gwanda pleaded for leniency saying, he had committed the offence because he impregnated a fellow college student at the campus hence wanted to use the money from the loot to support the pregnancy.
Passing the sentence, First Grade Magistrate, Tsoka Banda slapped Gwanda with a 3 year hail sentence with hard labour, saying this should save as a warning to those intending to commit similar offence.
Mtendere Gwanda aged 23 hails from Malonje Village, Traditional Authority Malemia in Zomba district.
