MWENDA WALTERS DOWN HIS MANIFESTO
The much-awaited manifesto launch by one of the aspirants for the position of President at the country’s soccer governing body FAM James Mwenda couldn’t live to its billing as Mwenda ‘waltered’ down his own blueprint due to his lack of understanding for domestic football.
Among many holes in the 36-paged document launched at the BICC in Lilongwe on Monday night, Mwenda failed to convince football fans as to why he is the right person to steer the game of football to desirerable standards.
From his profile, the current FAM Veep apart from highlighting some roles he has played in football adminstration, failed to explain some of his achievements in such roles.
From the start to the end, the audience could be seen shaking their heads in disbelief as Mwenda seemed lost in his delivery, a sign that he too couldn’t understand his own manifesto.
Among others Mwenda’s manifesto has presented nothing about Youth Football Development which is the basis for meaningful football growth world over.
Mwenda has also failed to explain how he would work to make the Flames qualify for Regional, Continental and other International competitions such as the World Cup.
The manifesto is also silent on FAM’s international relations with neighbouring country’s football associations as this is key for football integration and exchange of knowledge and skills for the betterment of the game in the region.
Mwenda also failed to explain his agenda for primary and secondary school football events/competitions since this is the nursery for the country’s top league and the National team.
On infrastructure develoment the document is silent. Mwenda hasn’t disclosed how he would work to facelift and maintain the existing structures and the plan to have new ones made available.
Mwenda has also said nothing on closer working relationship with local media institutions and personnel since the media is key in assisting in the improvement of the game.
Speaking at the end of the event some soccer fans doubted the competency of Mwenda in running the game saying he doesn’t give a best alternative to replacing the incumbent Walter Nyamirandu Manda.
