Mzuni staff demand Closure of the Institution

Members of the academic and non academic staff of Mzuzu University have said they will not provide any service unless students are sent back to their respective homes

This was presented in a MEMO which the staff send to the university following the meeting they had yesterday in order to express their stand on the students overeaction,injury, victimization and damage of the property belonging to staff and surrounding community

Mzuzu University Students on Monday, were demonstrating against the Vice Chancellor decision not to allow students to access their end of semester examination due to fees balances which attracted the law enforcers and police to come and dispense the students with the use of teargas

Yesterday, members of the academic and non academic staff also issued a MEMO to ask the university close the Institution, failure to do so, the staff will not provide any service to the students

In their meeting, the staff came up with several resolutions of which some of them were to do with safety of the environment saying they are not that safe to provide services therefore students must go back to their homes

Meanwhile, the university has condemned the violence saying students decided to stage the match while the university has been engaging with Students Union to resolve the matter

Now, the university has also sent a MEMO to all staff members as a call for a meeting to respond on the proposal to the closure of the school and students violent protest

In the MEMO, the university is requesting the management to seat down and discuss the issues raised by staff to see the way forward and also respond on their proposals

The meeting will be held today 30 October at the university board room.
