Very Unfortunate As Candidate Hire Thugs.
One of the candidates in the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) presidential race slated for December this year is said to have hired thugs to intimidate the incumbent president of the association, Walter Nyamilandu Manda and his sympathizers.
A notorious football fan Beleti Severe, popularly known as “Billy One” is said to have been hired by one of the presidential candidates who has been going around strategizing on how to intimidate Nyamilandu and some affiliates who seem to be behind him.
In a video clip that has been making rounds on social media platforms, Severe says if Walter Nyamilandu insist to seek another term of office during the FAM elective general assembly Severe and his followers will smash he windows at Mpira Village (FAM offices) in Chiwembe location in the city of Blantyre.
He also threatened to beat up all the affiliates who are showing support to Nyamilandu who is waiting to unveil his manifesto which some sources says is a complement of the works of his manifesto “Harvesting Time” spanning the period 2015-2019.
Speaking to one of the daily news papers, The Nation Nyamilandu is reported to be aware of the clip and he has since reported the matter to police saying his team cannot be intimidated or live in fear.
“My team cannot live in fear anymore, I should not be intimidated by Billy One. This is barbaric, such elements are elements of criminality are not acceptable in this day and age, we are living in a free world where everyone is free to express his democratic right,
“It is not a secret that Billy One has been sent by someone, he has been parading banners ever since, and we know that this is not the first time he has caused violence in football. He was also banned for assaulting the then Principal secretary, in the Ministry of Labour Sports and Manpower development, Sam Madula,” Nyamilandu said.
Nyamilandu has since sent warning shots to Severe saying he should stay away from him and that he cannot continue to get away with “murder” as he cannot be above the law at all times.
“Am warning him to stay away from me, my team, the affiliates and the property of the football association, he will be the first suspect if anything wrong happen to my life, my family, members of the Team Walter or that of the affiliates that support me,” he concluded.
Some of the affiliates whom this reporter spoke to opting for a condition of anonymity expressed disappointment with the master who is busy spending resources on hiring thugs to intimidate them instead of campaigning on the ground.
“We are indeed being threatened which is a clear indication that the other camp knows their short falls hence resorting to hire thugs specially assigned to threaten us, just wait and see, a real leader cannot hire hooligans,” he said.
In his clip Billy One is calling on Nyamilandu to recognize him and not ignore him being the interim Malawi national football team supporter’s chairperson and a sponsor of a youth team, Machinjiri United. But Severe insist that he feels the FAM leader treats him as a nonentity.
