Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima has left New York, United States of America coming back home as he is expected to arrive in the country on Sunday afternoon and believes he has represented President Lazarus Chakwera and the people of Malawi very well.
While updating the nation on his engagements in US, Chilima said he has made a case for Energy, for Tourism, for Mining and for Agriculture etc and believe that in the weeks coming positive feedbacks will be coming.
During the last day of his week long engagements at the UN headquarters, he said he represented President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera at the launch of an International Labour Organisation ( ILO) on A Human-Centred Recovery and the Future of work in LDCs looking at the fact that many developing countries, including Malawi, continue making strides toward social protection, structural transformation and decent work.
“To accelerate the process, the capacitation of labour market institutions being the backbone of a specially inclusive and green future of work in Least Developed Countries, is not only crucial but also the only way out,” Chilima said.
Speaking at the event as Guest of Honour, Chilima said “I started by stressing the fact that developed countries must always prioritize LDCs in their planning, thus, the report that has been launched will serve as an important background document for employment related discussions at the 5th UN conference on LDCs in Qatar in 2023,”
He therefore said as a country we need to harness digital economy if we are to be globally competitive and leverage the international community’s commitment to Malawi.
