Malawi National Football team coach Patrick Mabedi has made it clear that he will not resign from his position despite the poor show of the Flames in the African Cup of Nations qualifying games.

Mabedi says he is aware of the disappointment of many Malawians with the team’s performance, but he remains committed to his role.

He has cited the lack of quality attacking players and insufficient preparation time as key factors contributing to the team’s struggles.

Mabedi’s stance comes after a loss to Burundi and the Flames being drawn into a tough Group ‘L’ alongside Senegal and the Stallions of Burkina Faso in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Meanwhile, the former Flames coach Kinna Phiri has called for an immediate mediation between the Flames coach Patrick Mabedi and the South African based Malawi’s prolific striker, Frank Gabadini Mhango.

Phiri suggested that the two must meet and iron out their differences.

However, Mabedi still insist that under his tutelage Gaba is no longer wanted in the team citing age and tactics as a barrier to former Flames prolific striker.

Speaking in Parliament, the sports Minister Uchizi Mkandawire says he is very disappointed with the national team’s loss to Burundi in what looked like a more winnable game.

The Sports Minister was responding to Nkhata-bay Central constituency parliamentarian Symon Vuwa Kaunda who wanted government’s clarification on the Flames current dismal performances.
