Former President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has described Justice Dr. Jane Ansah, SC, as a woman of integrity and a person of deep faith.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Times Television, Mutharika emphasized his high regard for the former Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson, whom he sees as a principled and upright individual.
He highlighted that Jane Ansah’s strong moral character and belief system are qualities that continue to earn her respect across Malawi’s political and judicial spheres.
Mutharika further noted that he has been searching for capable individuals who can work with him to rebuild the country and restore its lost glory.
In this context, he revealed that Jane Ansah is one of the individuals he believes can play a meaningful role in contributing to the national development agenda.
The former President’s remarks are being interpreted by political analysts as a strong endorsement of Jane Ansah’s leadership potential and her role in the future of Malawi’s governance.
Justice Jane Ansah previously served as Chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission during the highly contested 2019 elections, a period that tested both her leadership and resilience.
Despite the controversy and criticism she faced during her time at MEC, Mutharika has continued to defend her conduct, insisting that she handled her responsibilities with professionalism and courage.
By singling her out in his interview, Mutharika may be signaling a broader strategy to include experienced technocrats and legal minds in his political plans as the 2025 general elections approach.
Jane Ansah’s inclusion in discussions around national rebuilding reflects the DPP’s apparent shift toward trust in competence, credibility, and strong ethical grounding.
As Malawi prepares for what is expected to be a highly competitive election season, Mutharika’s public praise of Jane Ansah sets the stage for possible political realignments and new power configurations.
The interview has sparked discussion nationwide, with supporters of the DPP welcoming the statement as a signal of inclusive and visionary leadership.
Whether or not Jane Ansah takes an active role in politics moving forward remains to be seen, but one thing is clear — she continues to command the admiration of one of Malawi’s most prominent political figures.
