Disgruntled unemployed teachers under IPTE 13 and 14 teachers want are threatening to hold vigils in the country’s major cities if President Lazarus Chakwera does not recruit them within five days.
But education authorities have hit back; arguing they don’t work on ultimatums.
The teachers say the Ministry of Education is deploying less than 2000 teachers out of over 5,000 available.
Chairperson for the two cohorts of teachers, Wonderful Gama wonders that things are turning out differently now despite responsible minister, Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima allegedly promising to recruit them all.
However, the ministry’s spokesperson, Mphatso Nkuonera says government does not have enough resources to employ all of them at once.
He adds the readily available resources are evenly distributed for various purposes in the ministry.
“If they were to understand the situation that we consider all factors available, and that the resources that we are allocated to the ministry of education could not be enough to recruit all teachers trained in the country.
Nkuonera has since asked the teachers to exercise patience and understanding that all of them cannot be hired at the same time.
