Chitipa United booted out of FDH Cup

SIMSO Mzuzu 12 Premier League side Raiply Football Club (FC) Saturday booted Super League outfit Chitipa United FC out of the FDH Cup after post match penalties in a thrilling David vs Goliath encounter at Karonga Stadium on Saturday.

From kick-off of round of 32 match, the underdogs from Chikangawa Forest seemed to have travelled to Karonga Stadium with an intent to win as they kept pressuring the home side.

At 31 minutes, they rattled the crossbar making their intentions known they meant business.

This jolted Chitipa United Coach, Christopher Nyambose into action and he removed their talisman Ramadan Ntafu and Shanty Mkonga bringing in Steve Saka and Rajab Nyirenda.

The duo immediately made their mark in the game as they combined well and Nyirenda put Chitipa in front at 35 minutes and the first half ended 1-0.

In the second half, Chitipa United pushed for another goal but Raiply FC’ s goalie, Blessings Chinyama proved to be up to the task as he denied them an aopportunity to shake his net again.

Eventually, Raiply United found their uqualiser after Moses Phiri fondly called ‘Fazala’ headed in a corner at 61 minutes and they held on until referee, Rose Zimba blew her whistle sending the game to be decided by penalties and Raiply emerged the victors 4-5.

At the end of the game, Raiply United’s goalkeeper, Chinyama earned himself the man of the match award for his outstanding perfomance.

In a post match interview, Team Manager for Raiply United, Malachi Chirwa said the victory showcases thier team’s hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence.

“This victory has inspired us that it is possible to go further and we will build on this momentum to advance in this tournament,” he said.

Chitipa United FC Coach, Christopher Nyambose hailed Raiply FC’s goalkeeper for his womderful perfomance.

“We had many chances but this goalkeeper managed to deny us a scoring opportunity throughout. However, this loss might be a blessing in disguise for us because we are on a bad position in the TNM Super League and we need to focus there for us to pull out of the relegation zone,” he added.
