Dossi departs at 70 years old in Blantyre

Tributes are still pouring in for the former minister of sports Moses Dossi who has died in Blantyre today at 70 years old.

The news of Dossi’s death emerged on Thursday around 3am when his son, Moses Jr, posted a photograph of the two, clad in Liverpool home jersey.

His daughter, Chikwawa West member of parliament Susan, confirmed that her father died in the early hours in Blantyre.

In his sad message, Football Association of Malawi-FAM President, Fleetwood Hayiya said: “I am deeply saddened and shocked to learn of the passing of Mr Moses Dossi Snr.

“To the football fraternity Mr Dossi Snr who was popularly known as ‘Man on the touchline’ was a pillar and an asset to Malawi football because of his immense contribution to the game through his reportage, commentary and analysis.”

He said through his pen and microphone Mr Dossi Snr set the pace to develop Malawi football by giving it a positive coverage that helped lift the quality of the game in Malawi.

“Over the past decades Mr Dossi Snr was a leader and advisor to many of us who benefited from his deep understanding of the game of football.

“We shall always remember Mr Dossi Snr as a humble, patriotic, wise and passionate football enthusiast and media professional who dedicated his life to raising the standards of football in Malawi and sports in general,” he said.

In his remarks, Vice President for Malawi , Saulos Chilima said: ” We convey our sincere condolences to Honourable Susan Dossi, the family, friends, and the nation at the loss of Comrade Honourable Moses Dossi.

“We are all shocked and heavily heart broken at the passing of Comrade Moses.

“Hon. Susan Dossi and the family have lost a Father, the Nation has lost an icon and a true servant of the people.”

Currently, his remains are laying at Mthunzi Funeral Services and it has been scheduled to be collected this afternoon at around 3pm to Manja at Mr. Moses Dossi Jnr Residence where Vigil is been observed.

Tomorrow, the 19th April 2024, around 9am, Body will be taken for Church service at St Pius, thereafter, will proceed to Chapananga, Chikwawa.

He will be laid to rest on Saturday, 20th April 2024 at Chapananga, Chikwawa.
