Malawi Electoral Commission-MEC is today expected to announce official results of the Thursday’s by-elections as unofficial ones show governing Malawi Congress Party’s Willard Gwengwe has won.
He has amassed 7913 votes while his fierce contender, Jacob Kaumphawi, an independent candidate, got 7361 votes.
Andrew Kaudza of the Democratic Progressive Party came at a distant third with 403 votes only.
There was however a serious voter apathy as only 15 899 out of the 47,723 registered people turned up to vote.
There were 221 void votes. The constituency had 60 polling stations.
