Operations at Mount Meru Chinsapo fuel station in Lilongwe are suspended for 30 days after an investigation exposed some fuel attendants demanded an extra K5000 payment from customers.

Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority-MERA had confirmed the development in a statement released in Sunday; saying this happened on October 4 2023.

It describes the conduct as a serious violation of the Liquid and Gas Act and licensing conditions.

“It is illegal to sell fuel above the maximum retail prices set by MERA. Lifting of the suspension will be subject to satisfactory implementation of measures taken to avoid reoccurrence of the malpractice,” says MERA.
