MPs Demand Full Repatriation Of Refugees

Some Members of Parliament have called for full repatriation of refugees to their respective native countries.

They also oppose the relocation of the refugee camp from Dzaleka, Dowa to Kayilizi, Chitipa; describing it as not the best alternative to deal with immigrants.

Chitipa South MP Welani Chilenga argued that native countries for most refugees and asylum seekers are now safe hence the need to facilitate their repatriation.

Chilenga was speaking when contributing to a report of Trade and Industry Committee of Parliament which highlighted a complaint from Small Scale Business Operators Association of unfair business due to the foreigners.

Mulanje South West MP George Chaponda concurred with Chilenga citing Mozambican refugees who went back home within a short period of time.

This comes as some human rights groups are calling on government to stop the relocation of the refugees and asylum seekers; saying some police officers are taking advantage of the exercise to violate rights of these people.
