Some disgruntled students at the Mzuzu University-Mzuni have stormed the streets pushing government to suspend the recently announced tuition fees hike in public universities.
They claim their decision follows failure by the students representatives and the university management to reach an agreement on the matter.
Again, some argue unlike other public universities, Mzuni has effected the fee hike in the middle of an academic year.
During the university’s Silver Jubilee Celebrations a few weeks ago, President Lazarus Chakwera touched on the tuition fees hike but challenged the private sector to invest in education to address such problems.
“I want you to know that government is doing all it can in order to make sure that we use all of our available resources to help with each one, so that nobody is out of school, out of university on account of fees,” said Chakwera, attracting boos in the process.
