Protests pushing for the resignation of President Lazarus Chakwera for his alleged failure to manage state affairs are currently underway in Lilongwe.
Under the banner, Malawi First, controversial political activist, Bon Kalindo is leading the demonstrations from Community Center Ground heading towards Kamuzu Palace
They maintain Chakwera has failed and there must be another transparent, accountable and responsive government. They cite hunger, fuel, forex, corruption and high cost of living as some crises that need a sensible leadership to address.
It follows a court order that stopped Lilongwe District Council from prohibiting the demos.
But the protesters are expected to deliver their grievances at a distance of not less than 100 meters from State House.
Repeatedly, Information Minister Moses Kunkuyu has argued that Chakwera knows what Malawians are going through and is doing something about it.
Initially, the grouping stressed they didn’t want anyone except President Chakwera to receive their petition.
However, the president is currently launching the $30.5 million Nkhatabay Water Supply and Sanitation Project in Nkhata Bay district.
