
The United Purpose (UP) and Self Help Africa (SHA] have launched a new brand and new 5-year country strategy aimed to alleviate hunger, poverty, social inequality and the impact of climate change with a vision of sustainable livelihoods and healthy lives for all in a changing climate.
The New brand and new era have marked renewed commitment to innovation, impact and community with a promise to deliver the values to achieve more than they have done before in WASH interventions, water, sanitation and hygiene, agriculture, and many others.
Launching the 5-year strategic plan at a function which was held at the Dowa boma on Thursday, Self Help Africa Malawi Country Director Kate Hartley-Lewis, said the new brand has a combination of the two organizations strength and expertise to alleviate hunger, poverty and social inequality to make the Malawi citizens achieve the 2063 Agenda.
District Commissioner for Dowa Stallich Mwambiwa, said Self Help Africa has been in Malawi since 2013 and has implemented so many interventions a development which is commendable complimenting government’s efforts towards service deliveries to the communities.
Mwambiwa said combining two organizations, United Purpose {UP) and Self Help Africa (SHA) has given the Dowa District Council hope that the interventions which will be implemented in the district will be sustainable in the eyes of the communities in the district.
“Our expectations are too huge and are beyond our approaches,” he said.
In his remarks, Dowa District Council’s Chairperson Councilor Mayamiko Kambewa, said for the two organizations to come together, is a milestone to the council with high expectations that Dowa will change, WASH initiatives will be promoted in the district.
Kambewa said the United Purpose (UP) has been in Dowa for several years saying communities have seen its fruits expressing hope and confidence that for them to be together as Self Help Africa (SHA) is a welcome development in the district.
He advised NGO partners and sectors to work together with Self Help Africa (SHA) so that its new brand and new 5-year 2023-2027 country strategy achieve its intended outcomes and implementation in the interest of all.
