FAM welcomes history of Malawi football book

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has welcomed a history of Malawi football book authored by United Kingdom based Mario Antione. The book which is set to be launched on Tuesday next week is the only comprehensive book to date that has documented the country’s football history from pre-colonial period to post independence period. FAM president Walter Nyamilandu applauded Antione for the book, saying it will help preserve history of the sport for future generations. Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has shelved plans to name and shame individuals and companies with unfulfilled financial pledges meant to facilitate the Flames’ participation at the  Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals in January 2022. FAM’s move comes after some companies and individuals fulfilled K15 million of the outstanding K33 million pledges within the 21-period that expired last week. FAM general secretary Alfred Gunda yesterday said: “After sensitising the entities on the need to honour their pledges, I can confirm that we have now collected K15 million of the K33 million that was expected. “They have also shown serious commitment to pay the remaining K18 million within the next few days.” He said the local football governing body has since reserved its ear...

Meke Mwase Demanding MK500 Million In Compensation

Former Malawi national football team Coach Meke Mwase is demanding MK500 Million in compensation from the Football Association of Malawi over the termination of his contract. This follows the decision by FAM to relieve Mwase of his duty as coach for the Flames and asking government to redeploy him for the reminder of his contract which will expire in 2023. In a letter addressed to Alfred Gunda, secretary general of FAM, Mwase through his lawyer David Kanyenda says his client has always been willing to render his professional services to the Malawi National Team but FAM has been engaging in dubious actions designed to frustrate him.
