High Court Dismisses Namalomba’s Application With Costs

The High Court in Zomba has thrown out an application by Democratic Progressive Party Spokesperson, Shadrick Namalomba, with costs which sought judicial review on whether the Leader of Opposition in Parliament has the right to make some decisions such as appointing a shadow cabinet and re-allocating seats on the opposition benches. In its determination, the court said Namalomba was trying to find a political solution via the backdoor. Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) secretary general (SG) Grezelder Jeffrey has refuted reports that the rally scheduled for Sunday at Mgona in Lilongwe, will unveil a new political party. Jeffrey told the media in Lilongwe that they remain loyal to DPP and that Kondwani Nankhumwa has been invited by her to be guest of honour in his capacity as the party vice-president for the south and as leader of opposition in Parliament. She added that they are looking forward to the planned DPP convention to elect new office bearers.
