The Mangochi Senior Resident Magistrate's Court has sentenced Gift Chidule, 35, and Felix Divason, Banda, 45, to 21 years imprisonment with hard labour each for robbing a Rwandan businessman based at St. John's DMI University area. Publicist for Mangochi Police, Amina Tepani Daudi, said the convicts committed the crime in June this year. “They demanded him to surrender all cash made from that day's sales while threatening to kill him. The victim surrendered a sum of K240,000 cash. However the convicts forced him to make a transaction of K108,000 he had in his phone to a number which bore Chidule's name," said Daudi. Mangochi Police Station is keeping in custody three men on suspicion that they robbed a businesswoman a sum of K2.2 Million and Samsung J1 phone on the night of September 30, 2021 at Malombe. The Mangochi Senior Resident Magistrate's Court on March 31, 2022 convicted and sentenced Idrisah Jamali, 41, to 3 and half years imprisonment with hard labour for fishing using Seine net without licence contrary to section 14(1) of the Fisheries, Conservation and Management Act. Police in Mangochi have arrested Imran Anusa, 20, who is suspected to have stolen 14 manhole covers worth K910,000 at St. Michael’s Girls Secondary School in Malindi area. According to Mangochi Police Publicist Amina Tepani Daudi, on the morning of March 16, 2022 the school bursar discovered that the fourteen manhole covers at the staff houses were missing. Daudi added that the matter was reported at Mangochi Police Station where officers responded quickly leading to the arrest of the suspect the same day.
