Malawi National Football team the Flames have been booted out of the CHAN competition after a goalless draw in Mozambique in a return leg today. Mozambique are through to the competition's final phase with an away golden goal they scored at Bingu National Stadium during the first leg last weekend. Flames have never qualified for the final stage of the competition since 2009. This is Mozambique's second qualification to the final phase stage.

The Malawi National Football Team (The Flames) have beaten Ethiopia by 2 goals to 1 in the first African Cup of Nations Qualifiers played at Bingu National Stadium (BNS). Both goals were scored by Gabadinho Mhango from the penalty spot. President Dr Lazarus Chakwera and First Lady Madam Monica Chakwera as well as Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima watched the match at the BNS which was filled for the first time by Malawians who came from all corners of Malawi as well Ethiopians who reside in Malawi. In his remarks, the Head of the Flames' technical team, Mario Marinica, commended the team for the effort. Marinica Appointed As Flames coach,

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has appointed Marian Mario Marinica as Flames coach, replacing Meck Mwase, who has been relieved of his duties. The decision was made during Fam's Executive Committee meeting held in Mangochi on Saturday. Marinica will sign a new contract as Flames’ coach and has been given freedom to choose his backroom staff. Benjamin Kumwenda has been appointed new Technical Director.
