The Public Appointments Committee of Parliament (PAC) has objected the suggested amendment by the Law Commission to transfer appointing powers of Director of Assets declaration to the President. The Public Appointments Committee of Parliament will next week meet to discuss concerns some Malawians have raised on issues surrounding Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau Martha Chizuma. On Monday this week, some Malawians held protests in Lilongwe calling for the firing of Chizuma over a leaked phone conversation she had with an unknown person. In the audio, Chizuma was narrating the plight faced in the fight against corruption. The recording sparked public debate including a revelation by President Lazarus Chakwera later on that Chizuma had been disciplined on the same. Some members of the committee confided in Nation Online about the development. PAC held interviews for the newly appointed board members between yesterday and today. According to information that we have gathered, the committee has rejected Innocencia Chirombo who was appointed vice chairperson because she had already served in the previous board which was faulted in the appointment of Mera chief executive officer Henry Kachaje.
